Naismith Grave & Memorial

Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball and the original "Dr. J", is buried in Lawrence, Kansas. He's buried in Memorial Park Cemetary. To find the cemetary go east on 15th Street from Massachusetts Street. Go about 2 miles. The cemetary is on the south.

A memorial to the good doctor is located just off the entrance to the left. You, and others, might be tempted to think Naismith and his wife of 43 years are buried at or around the memorial. You'd be wrong.

Both James and Maude are buried just west of a tall column at the very far south end of Memorial Park Cemetary.
